The Challenge:
In the summer of 2021, the sanctuary ceiling became unstable and the worship space became unsafe. After many years of repairs, the ceiling could no longer be fixed. While consulting for ceiling replacement options, the church trustees realized that other maintenance issues and capital improvements should also be addressed. These priorities included heating and cooling system updates, foyer renovations and addressing real space needs for our youth programs which have outgrown our church space over the last decade.
After a comprehensive examination of facility needs, a multi-phase construction plan was developed by industry experts, refined by the church trustees and brought forward to the church membership.
Vision:
When the capital improvements are complete, First Baptist will have a modernized and functionalized sanctuary and foyer space.
Our worship space and foyer will be able to meet the needs of our ministries and community neighbors in ways we are currently unable.
- Flexible seating options in the sanctuary will open up the opportunity for small group discussions and better accommodate church retreats and other church events like presentations, teas and youth events.
- The space will be measurable, opening up the possibility for ticketed events such as a concert.
- Our attractive spaces can be offered to community neighbors such as local school choirs for approved facility rental use. More important than potential revenue that can help reduce construction debt, offering our space in approved ways allows the church to minister to a greater number of people.
- The renovations will reflect the truth, the light and the vibrance of the church.
Fundraising Campaign Goals:
We are very blessed to have much of phase one of the capital campaign budget funded by an anonymous donation of $500,000.
The balance of the budgetary needs, approximately $1.7 million, will be funded through individual, corporate and grantor support. These donations will be used to repay a bank loan over a projected five-year time period.
